DVD Review

Advanced Combat - The Art of Pencak Silat

By:  Michael Minutillo

I had the pleasure of viewing “Advanced Combat”: The Art of Pencak Silat by Silat Master Steven Benitez. The advanced Combat DVD is a general introduction to Indonesian Pencak Silat as taught by Pendekar Steven Benitez and Guru Alvin Guinanao.

I was extremely impressed of the quality of this DVD, and you can tell that it was carefully structured so that you are able to get the best out of the teaching and training. The scenic background was very creative and this in conjunction with the music selections, made this DVD very unique.

The DVD comes with three audio options, and it my understanding that future DVDs will have a fourth option that will contain a voiceover track.

The DVD is broken down into various chapters: Basis, Jurus, Hand Dills, Applications, Free flow, Form, and a Bonus. Each chapter starts out with an introduction by Master Benitez to put the relevant section into the proper context.

I was also very impressed with the techniques and form shown on this DVD - they were very precise and accurate, and can easily see similarities to Kun Tao.

I can’t wait to watch this DVD again. I would highly recommend it to those looking to learn more about Pencak Silat, and learn from these skilled practitioners.

I also heard that they have a couple of other instructional DVDs coming out in the future that look interesting on Ground Fighting and Indonesian Yoga.

You can keep up to date and learn more by visiting www.reelcombat.com - this website is very cool also.

Much thanks to Mark Wilenkin for sending me this DVD.

FullCombat gives this DVD a Thumbs up!
