Why Not Aspire To Something Much Higher?
By Greg Hickman
“To understand the heart and mind of a person,
look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he
aspires to do.”
Kahlil Gibran
We all have wondrous dreams of how we wish our lives
could be, beautiful breath taking imagery that
delightfully dances across the silver screens of our
minds. And it is in these dreams, those cherished
beliefs that we hold deep down in our hearts and souls,
that our destinies are shaped.
These stunning, incredible dreams paint a picture of
a better life, providing us a much needed glimmer of
hope even during our toughest of times. Yet far too
often we turn our backs on our dreams and our destinies,
refusing to see our lives as they could be — or then
living them as they should be.
“There is not a heart but has its moments of
longing, yearning for something better, nobler, holier
than it knows now.”
Henry Ward Beecher
It is human nature to aspire to something bigger and
better; to find a way to bring out our very best daily.
It is only natural for us to aspire to something much
better than where we presently find ourselves today. Yet
for one reason or another, we often times fail to seek
out something much higher — and this goes against the
grain.
After all, each of us are programmed for success
right from birth, endowed with an indefatigable desire
to aspire, pursue and attain the best life has to offer.
We all long for a better life where we are free to
follow our dreams, to uncover that pot of gold at the
end of the rainbow. And we all yearn to explore the
unknown beyond, to discover just how good life can
become. That’s precisely why we must aspire to something
much higher each and every day of our lives.
“To desire is to obtain; to aspire is to achieve.”
James Allen
Why would anyone hesitate to jump at the chance to
make his or her life the exciting, unbelievably great
adventure it deserves to be? Well, there’s one reason
and one reason only: FEAR. That’s right;
the fear of failing or coming up short is enough to stop
most people cold in their tracks. They are so petrified
at the prospects of failing that they find themselves
literally paralyzed from their head to their toes,
unable to make a move.
Hey, we need to get one thing straight right now.
Holding ourselves back, afraid that we may make a
mistake or make some sort of goof up is a sure fire, one
way ticket to mediocrity.
We need to succeed, we
need to make something positive out of our
lives and we really need to aspire
to something much higher than we accomplished the day
before. And more than anything else, we need
to fulfill these needs.
“Aspire rather to be a hero than merely appear
one.”
Baltasar Gracian
There is something special, something truly amazing
that dwells within each of us; a compelling, convincing
purpose that makes us come alive, that makes us tick.
And it is this purpose that gives us a reason for
living.
This one of a kind, distinctively unique purpose is
what we are all about, what we were placed on earth to
accomplish. If we fail to heed that positive charged
voice resonating within that beseeches to go for the
gold and not worry about coming up short, how can we
expect to live our dreams? In a nutshell, we can’t. And
that’s not going to do, is it?
Instead of fretting about what may or may not occur
if you go for it, why not take the plunge feet first and
see what happens? How will you ever know how good your
life can get if you are unwilling to give it a go? In a
world desperately short of heroes and heroines, why not
step forward and stake your claim as one of the very
best?
Maybe you should follow the advice of motivational
speaker Les Brown when he said, “Shoot for the moon.
Even if you miss it, you’ll land among the stars.” When
you consistently aspire to something much higher than
what you’ve got right now, something much higher is
precisely what you’ll get.
The Bottom Line: You need to look up, not
down, and shoot for something much higher each and every
day.
