Building Blocks
By Greg Hickman
“It's the
constant and determined effort that breaks down all
resistance, sweeps away all obstacles.”
- Claude M. Bristol
Some of the
best building blocks you’ll ever encounter in life can
often come in the form of stumbling blocks. That’s
right, many of those annoying obstacles and barriers
that get in your way and hold you back can actually be
turned into building blocks with a little work — and the
right attitude. So roll up your sleeves and let’s get to
work.
By
conditioning yourself to see life’s stumbling blocks as
nothing more than just another set of building blocks in
your inevitable ascent to the top, you’ve already
hurdled the most difficult part of overcoming obstacles.
With a positive charged outlook on life, you can use any
obstacle you happen upon as a launching pad instead of a
stumbling block.
“Most of
our obstacles would melt away if, instead of cowering
before them, we should make up our minds to walk boldly
through them.
- Orison Swett Marden
How many of
us are quick to run for cover whenever the going gets a
bit tough? Instead of hanging in there and finding a way
over, around or through any problem encountered, we end
up running up the white flag or tossing in the towel.
The tiniest
of difficulties often end up becoming huge stumbling
blocks because we fail to power through
them. When we stand up to the difficult times we face
and decide to tough it out, we turn those stumbling
blocks into … stepping stones.
“Every
adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with
it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.”
- Napoleon Hill
Nobody really
ever gets used to life’s most trying times. After all,
none of us likes to get knocked around. But if success
is about any one thing, it’s about overcoming life’s
stumbling blocks.
When you
learn to roll with the punches, always getting up each
and every time you get knocked down, you’ll soon be well
on your way to fashioning a fabulous lifetime of
achievement. Rather than viewing life’s challenges as
potential stumbling blocks, you’ll start seeing them as
potential building blocks instead.
“Out of
difficulties grow miracles.”
- Jean De La Bruyere
The manner in
which you approach life’s difficult times can literally
make you — or break you. You can be overwhelmed and over
powered by all sorts of problems or instead can build on
each and every adversity that crosses your path.
So what's it
going to be — stumbling blocks or building blocks? After
all, it’s your call and yours alone. Will you take
charge of your life by taking on any and all problems
head on — or will your problems take you down, maybe for
the count?
Please
remember, especially during your most challenging
moments, that even the biggest mountain of a problem can
be conquered one building block at a time. Or as Robert
Schuller puts it, “For every mountain there is a
miracle.”
The Bottom
Line: You can forge the life you’ve always imagined
when you turn your stumbling blocks into building
blocks.
