High
Octane Optimism
By Greg Hickman
“Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.”
Colin Powell
There are two basic kinds of people in the world:
optimists and pessimists. Oh sure, we’re all different
and each of us possesses traits and characteristics that
are uniquely ours and ours alone. But regardless of
whether we acknowledge our proclivities or not, we do
tend to lean one direction or the other as it relates to
the way we live life and how we view the world around
us.
We can be ‘the glass is half full’ champion, where we
consistently see a positive charged world brimming with
opportunity, hope and prosperity or on the other hand,
we can choose to be a ‘glass is half empty’ defeatist
who can only see scarcity, despair and hopelessness
instead. While each of us has days when we feel a little
more ‘up’ or a bit more ‘down’ than usual, by and large
we’re basically an optimist or a pessimist.
“No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the
stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new
heaven to the human spirit.”
Helen Keller
How about you; are you a half full player
making the most out of what you have been given or
merely a half empty pretender moaning and
groaning about what you don’t have or can’t do instead?
Hey, let’s face it; in order to bring out your best,
you’ve got to constantly fill yourself with high octane
optimism — that one-of-a-kind enthusiastic energy that
gets you going and keeps you all day long.
Why in the world would you ever give up on life or
worse yet, give up on yourself? Worrying about what you
don’t have or fretting about the mistakes you’ve made is
a needless waste of time and energy, precious resources
that could be better used in the passionate pursuit of
your dreams. Regardless of how dire your present
circumstances may appear at first blush, rest assure you
have far more than you’ll ever need to breathe
energetic, optimistic life into your dreams — if you’ll
simply focus on the brighter side of things.
“Always look at what you have left. Never look at
what you have lost.”
Robert H. Schuller
If you think about it for a moment or two, have you
ever known anyone who has brought out their very best by
perpetually harboring a negative, down in the dumps,
doom and gloom attitude? Not a chance — and why? Because
these people never gave themselves a chance to succeed;
foolishly electing to fritter away their very best.
Instead of exhibiting a positive attitude, the
pessimistic crowd is way too busy complaining about the
way the cookie crumbled, grumbling about how the ball
bounced and crying over spilt milk to even notice there
is a better way to go through life. That’s a mistake you
can ill afford to make.
“Throw back the shoulders, let the heart sing, let
the eyes flash, let the mind be lifted up, look upward
and say to yourself ... nothing is impossible!”
Norman Vincent Peale
Aren’t there are just too many wonderful times and
too many memorable moments out there waiting for you to
even consider throwing away even one minute of your life
with a pessimistic attitude or negative mood? And
wouldn’t you dearly love to make your life everything
you’ve dreamed it could become — and possibly more?
I’d like you to close your eyes for a minute and
imagine yourself doing all the things you have longed to
do, enjoying your life like never before — relishing
each and every savory second of living. Go ahead, I want
you to allow your emotions to run completely wild and
unfettered as you bask in the beauty of a life filled
with total happiness and contentment — doing what you
love to do day in and day out. I want you to feel the
electrically charged energy; I want you to experience
firsthand the unbridled excitement. Can you feel it? I
mean really, really FEEL it? It feels
great, doesn’t it? In fact, doesn’t it feel ‘just
right,’ the way you’ve always dreamed that
your life should feel?
Now instead of just feeling it, why not wake up and
fuel yourself with high octane optimism and make all of
your dreams come true?
When you begin anxiously awaiting each new day and
the abundant opportunity it presents, you set the table
for one truly remarkable, extraordinary adventure after
another. An optimist never met a day he or she didn’t
look forward to living — and neither should you!
The Bottom Line: Today is your day — so be on
your way!
