Developing a Mean Streak

How many
times have we heard the following statement? "You've
got to say what you mean and mean what you say". No
doubt about it, this is a simple yet extremely powerful
affirmation to be sure. There is no question that a lot
of people are quite proficient at talking a pretty good
game. They say they will do this or say they will do
that, but far too often all of their huffing and puffing
does little more than fill the room with a lot of hot
air. They rarely if ever follow up all of their big talk
with any kind of tangible action.
Why would
anyone say they are going to do something if they have
no intention of doing it? Who knows. Maybe they were
trying to impress those around them with their big talk
or perhaps they had good intentions but got sidetracked
for one reason or another. In any event, they evidently
did not mean what they said or otherwise they would have
done it. People soon realize that they simply can not
count on these big talkers. I guess that is where the
phrases "talk is cheap" or "all talk and no action" came
from.
Power
performers, on the other hand, develop a mean
streak. These winners can be counted on to
say what they mean and even more importantly,
mean what they say. If you don't know what these
winners stand for and what they won't stand for, you
probably haven’t been paying much attention to their
actions. Winners do not feel the need to talk a
good game. They instead put their words into action and
play a great game daily.
Yes, talk may
indeed be cheap these days and sure, some people will
always be known as all talk and no action types. But
whenever a winner tells you he or she is going to do
something, you can take their word to the bank. No
beating around the bush, no excuses, no forgetting to do
it. When a winner says it, they mean it. Whenever a
winner commits to doing something, it's a sure bet that
it is going to get done.
You might
want to work on developing a mean streak too. Then when
people hear you talk, they know some big time action is
sure to follow.
