Under Construction

By Greg Hickman

As we surely know by now, if there is one constant about the game of life – it is that we CHANGE daily. Without question, we continually shape, enhance, improve and yes, change our lives every single day. As a matter of fact, our lives are literally under construction from head to toe in one form or fashion 365 days a year.

Some of the changes we make are small and almost imperceptible while some of the other changes we undertake are of a far greater magnitude. The choices we make determine the changes we make. Sometimes we are enthusiastically engaged in building a beautiful bridge to the future, while other times we seem overly preoccupied with a pothole from the past.

As long as each of us lives, we will continue to change each and every day. If we ever stop changing and growing, we unfortunately start dying.

Since change is going to happen with or without your input, shouldn’t you make absolutely certain that you control the types of changes you make in your life? The real power players have always understood that if they fail to control the process, they will be powerless to control the outcome. The winners accept total responsibility for the changes they make and by controlling those changes, they control the lives they build for themselves and their families.

As you clock in every morning for another day of work in your "construction zone," you need to remember to bring along your hard hat. Since you are going to get banged on the head on occasion, you might as well be prepared for it. You’ll discover that this hard hat mentality provides protection against the temporary setbacks you will unquestionably encounter throughout the day.

So instead of giving up or quitting when the going gets a bit tough, your hard hat mentality and tenacity provides the impetus to fix or repair any problem you face and get back on track.

Isn’t it about time to put up your own ‘Under Construction’ signs and get to work today? There, in your private construction zone, you can break down walls and tear down barriers that have held you down or held you back in the past. Then, instead of tearing people down, you can start building people up.

By assuming control of all of the improvements and renovations being made in your construction zone, you can assume total control of your direction in life. So why not fire up the heavy equipment and start clearing your path straight to the top right now?
The Bottom Line: When you control the process, you control the outcome.
